Today is a very popular festival in India-Raksha Bandhan. For this festival, let's make a super delicious, melt in mouth Easy Red Lentil Fudge/Indian Style Burfi.Desserts are the highlight of any Indian festival. No indian festival is complete without a touch of sweets.Normally making Burfi is a tedious process where milk is reduced till it thickens. In this easy Indian style homemade Burfi, I have used Red Lentil, known as Masoor Dal in Hindi and it is ready in 15 minutes from start to end.And to turn this into a Vegan dessert, replace Ghee or clarified butter with Coconut Oil and use Plant based milk in place of Dairy Milk.
½cupRed Lentil or Masoor Dal.Dry grind to a fine powder.
½cupGrated fresh coconut.
½cupGhee or clarified butter.Use Coconut Oil for vegan Option.
½cupMilk.Use Plant based milk for vegan option.
1½cupJaggery.Can use unrefined brown sugar.
1tbspRoasted Poppy Seeds.
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a wide mouthed Pan.Stir and mix well.
Turn on flame and keep the Pan on flame.
Keep stirring till everything thickens and starts leaving side of Pan.
To check if Burfi is cooked, put a drop of mixture in a small bowl filled with water. If mixture retains its shape and you can form a ball, that means the burfi is cooked and ready to be poured.
Grease a dish with ghee or coconut oil. You can use 8x4 glass dish or any other which you have.
Pour Burfi in the greased pan.
Sprinkle roasted Poppy seeds on top and press gently.
Cut into squares of desired size. This ratio of ingredients will give you about 12 big burfis or 15 medium sized burfis.
Enjoy this melt in mouth dessert on this festival day !
