What is Muhammara?
Muhammara (pronounced moo-hahm-MA-rah) is a traditional Levantine dip made using roasted red peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs, olive oil, pomegranate molasses, and spices. The result? A dip that is:
Smoky from roasted red peppers
Nutty from ground walnuts
Slightly sweet & tangy from pomegranate molasses
Mildly spicy from Aleppo pepper or red pepper flakes
Unlike hummus, which is smooth and creamy, Muhammara has a coarser, heartier texture, making it a versatile spread that can be used in countless ways.
Why You’ll Love Muhammara
- Packed with nutrients – Walnuts contain healthy fats, and red peppers are rich in antioxidants.
- Perfect for any occasion – Serve it as a dip with pita chips, as a spread in wraps, or alongside grilled meats.
- Naturally vegan and gluten-free (if you skip the breadcrumbs).
To sum up, Muhammara is a delicious, nutrient-rich alternative to traditional dips, offering the perfect balance of smoky, spicy, and sweet flavors. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply looking for a healthy snack, this dip is sure to impress. And on top of it, it’s easy to make with simple ingredients!
